Now that we’re Grandboomers, we’re also at an age when medications become a part of our regimen. When visiting the grandchildren or having them at your home, keep your meds out of sight of the children and don’t take them in front of the children. Young ones have a natural curiosity and if they see you taking a pill, they may interpret it as candy or at least something that’s OK to eat because Grandpa just put one in his mouth.

Most meds come in child-proof containers. However, an open container or a pill that has been placed in a weekly dispenser can become a dangerous hazard for an inquisitive youngster. That old expression, out of sight, out of mind, is appropriate here. Keep your medications safety out of sight and reach for young children. When you visit, make sure they’re up high and not left on an end table or counter. At home, keep them in the medicine cabinet or on a high shelf.
